Austin, and an update...

So...
Last Friday I headed over to Austin. The company who I've been working with on my project, Blue Fish Development Group, were celebrating their 6th Birthday.

With it being a while since I was last invited to a 6th birthday party, I drove over (only 3 hours from Houston!) with a friend from work, and we arrived in the 100 degree F heat just in time.

Blue Fish's offices are on 6th Street, which as you may recall is the hub of the entertainment area - similar to Bourbon Street in New Orleans. They have a great patio overlooking the throngs below, and even had a great live band just for us.

In any case, temperatures on the patio were approaching 110 F, even though it was by now 6pm. The majority of the guests had retired inside to escape the heat, leaving the band playing to the bar staff.

Ah well. It was a great evening, and too much beer was drunk in the hours before 2pm.

The following day, we headed to Auditorium Shores, where a large screen had been set up to show Live 8. This was on the MTV network, and 'sucked big time' , to use an American phrase! MTV had clearly missed the point of the entire concert, and would screen a single song before playing a good 5 minutes of adverts, generally for Hummers, crap 'merkin beer, as well as indigestion tablets. Not to put too fine a point on it, but if they stopped eating quite so much, they wouldn't need tablets or Hummers, as they could fit inside normal cars. Also there would be enough food left over for everyone on the planet. Thats quite apart from the inapropriateness of screening ads in a charity concert aimed at battling the scourge of world poverty.

After about 30 minutes of feeling our brain stems dying due to the inane commentary and adverts, we drove out northwest towards Lake Travis. It was once again very hot, 100 deg probably, and we wanted water. To swim in and to drink.

Eventually we found both, and stayed by the lake until 7pm, when we headed back to Houston.

I would show you a picture, but I didn't take any. Doh.
